A season marked by triumph and tragedy, excitement and disillusionment, and often, life and death. The new sports documentary about the beginnings of "Schumi Mania" in Germany premieres worldwide on Netflix on October 2, 2026.
In 1994, Michael Schumacher became Formula 1 World Champion for the first time. But between his season-opening victory in Brazil and clinching the title in Australia lies one of the most dramatic seasons in racing history. Only 25 years old at the time, Michael and his girlfriend and future wife Corinna experience spectacular victories, allegations of manipulation, and devastating events such as the fatal accidents of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger. Suddenly, in the midst of the season, they are threatened with losing everything. At the same time, a true wave of "Schumi Mania" sweeps across Germany.
SCHUMACHER ‘94 – THE BIRTH OF A LEGEND tells the story of Michael Schumacher’s journey from underdog to world champion as an emotional drama, a gripping thriller and as a document of an almost forgotten era. Michael's wife Corinna Schumacher and his close companions, such as Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone, David Coulthard, Willi Weber, Kai Ebel, and Heiko Waßer recall through anecdotes how they experienced Schumi during this time. They describe him as an uncompromising fighter on the racetrack and as a sensitive, empathetic person outside of the paddock. Rarely has Schumacher’s story been told with such intimacy. Corinna, always his closest confidante, also offers a glimpse into the beginnings of an extraordinary love story – one that has endured to this day.

Jochen Köstler serves as producer, with Constanze Guttmann and Janek Romero as executive producers.
